Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the new competition of the Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World. Designed to promote understanding of the Muslim World and civilization, the program enables American colleges, universities and community colleges to enrich their international programs and courses of study by providing opportunities for direct access and intensive exposure to specialists from Muslim communities in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and several countries in Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Balkans.
- Lecturing, consulting on academic curricula and programs.
- Relationship building with institutions
- Public outreach activities in schools, religious groups, and communities.
- Please note the teaching of languages or undertaking a research project will not be supported.
Eligibility:
- Scholars and professionals from disciplines of arts, business, communications and journalism, education, humanities, law, library science and social sciences.
- Track record of teaching, lecturing and/or consulting.
- Excellent command of English.
- Expertise on Islamic cultures/civilizations/societies.
- The applicant does not need to be Muslim by religion.
Application Details:
- Former Fulbrighters from the eligible countries/locales who have academic and/or professional background in the specified disciplines are encouraged to apply.
- Former Fulbrighters may apply without specifying a U.S. institution where they would like to be hosted. In this case, State Department and CIES will match the scholar applicant with a successful U.S. grantee institution.
- Non-former Fulbrighters must be requested by a specific U.S. institution in order to apply for this program.
- Both former Fulbrighters and non-former Fulbrighters may request to be hosted at a specific U.S. institution only if the specified institution also applies for this grant.
Financial Support:
- Grants are paid to Visiting Specialists. No overhead is provided to host institutions.
- Grants include air travel, in-transit allowance, per diem and an honorarium for each participant.
- As an in-kind contribution, host institutions are required to provide free housing and local transportation to all program-related activities for the Visiting Specialist. Other cost-sharing is highly encouraged such as meals, office space or computer usage. Preference will be given to those with such institutional commitments.
