On June 4, President Obama gave an historic speech in Cairo, Egypt as a part of his effort to strengthen U.S. national security with an unprecedented outreach to Muslims around the world.  During his speech, the President proposed a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.

President Obama's speech focused on seven themes: confronting violent extremism, peace and security among Israelis and Palestinians, nuclear non-proliferation, democracy and human rights, religious freedom, rights of women, and economic development and opportunity with the Muslim world.
