Demonstration Notice (May 8, 2008)

Spontaneous demonstrations take place in Bahrain from time to time in response to world events or local developments.  We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possible escalate into violence.  American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.  American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.  Upcoming demonstration information follows:

On May 8 - Three demonstrations are planned: in the Sahlah area beginning at 1930; in the Ras Ruman Mosque area (near the Sheraton Hotel) beginning at 2000; and in the Manama Souq area beginning at 2000.

On May 9 - Two demonstrations are planned: in the Sitra area beginning at 1600; and in the Jidhafs area (near Burgerland Roundabout) beginning at 1930.

On May 10 - Two demonstrations are planned: in the Sanabis area beginning at 1600; and in the Karzakkan area beginning at 1600.
