American Embassy Announces Exchange Programs for University Students

February 5, 2008

The American Embassy is pleased to announce two exchange programs for Bahraini university level students:  the 2008 MEPI Youth Summer Leadership Institute Program and the 2008/9Undergraduate Exchange Program.

The MEPI Youth Summer Leadership Institute is a fully funded six-week intensive leadership training program sponsored by the American Embassy in coordination with the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). Participants travel to the USA in July for a 4-week academic residency program at an American college or university followed by a two-week study tour to different regions of the United States.  Participants will also be eligible to participate in a regional follow-up conference in 2009.

This program is designed especially for aspiring student leaders who want to make a difference in their communities. It is open to Bahraini students between the ages of 18 and 22 years who are currently in college or university.  Applicants must be proficient in English and have a strong interest in learning about the United States.

The Undergraduate Exchange Program is a fully funded program which provides Bahraini undergraduates with the opportunity to spend a semester or a year at an American college or university.  Bahraini student leaders will enroll full-time in the United States and live on campus with American students. The program is open to students in every academic field of study except law and medicine and to current Bahraini undergraduates as well as to those who will graduate from secondary school or university in summer 2008. Applicants must be proficient in English and have a strong interest in learning about the United States.

The application deadline for both programs is 10 a.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the American Embassy. Student may apply to both programs but may only participate in one program.
