American Jazz Group to Perform in Bahrain
The American Embassy will sponsor the jazz quartet, Exegesis, on a five-day visit to Bahrain from February 18-22, 2008. The visit is the first stop on a regional tour arranged by Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State.
While in Bahrain, Exegesis will hold a series of music education workshops in schools and at the Bahrain Music Institute and the Friendship Society for the Blind. In cooperation with the Directorate of Culture and National Heritage they will perform in concert on Thursday, February 21 at the Cultural Hall in Manama. The concert is free and open to the public; doors open at 7:30 p.m.
The band members, Nicholas Demopoulos (guitar), Michael Blanco (bass), Tomas Fujiwara (drums) and David Cook (piano) will be accompanied by their mentor William Banks. Their music seeks to bridge the gap between modern music technology and improvisation to create the sonic illusion
that there are more than four musicians performing.
