ACCESS Microscholarship Students visit the American Embassy

Over 150 Bahraini students participating in the American Embassy-sponsored ACCESS Microscholarship program visited the Embassy April 17-19. Deputy Chief of Mission Susan Ziadeh welcomed the students. They also met with Ambassador Monroe in his office and had the opportunity to ask questions on a range of topics from U.S. foreign policy to what he thinks of Bahraini cuisine.

The students are part of the English ACCESS Microscholarship Program sponsored by the people of the United States through the U. S. State Department. In cooperation with the Bahraini Ministry of Education, the ACCESS program currently provides special English classes in four Bahraini public schools: Al Noor Girls, Shaikh Isa Boys, Al Naim Boys, and Hamad Town Girls.

For many students, this was their first visit to the American Embassy.

The English ACCESS Microscholarship Program is a U.S. Department of State initiative for non-elite youth in predominantly Muslim communities around the world. Over 4,000 students worldwide participate in the program which is coordinated by U.S. Embassies with English Language providers. More than 4,000 students in 39 countries have enrolled in the program. The ACCESS program in Bahrain is administered by English Language Services (ELS) of Abu Dhabi and by the American Cultural and Educational Center (ACEC).
