On February 28, the American Embassy hosted a teleconference discussion for Bahraini journalists with distinguished U.S. professor and Middle East expert, Dr. William Quandt.  During the discussion Dr. Quandt focused on Middle East policy under the Obama Administration.  Topics included the Administration's commitment to the two-state solution, increased diplomacy in the U.S. relationship with Iran, and President Obama's recent statement about withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.  Dr. Quandt said that there will change in the Obama Administration's approach to the Middle East, with a greater emphasis on diplomacy and a reduced emphasis on confrontation.

Dr. Quandt is a professor at the University of Virginia, Department of Politics.  He is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations, was previously a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institute, and served on the National Security Council.  Dr. Quandt currently serves on the board of the American University in Cairo and the Foundation for Middle East Peace.
